STREET DANCE FOR CHARITY THIS CHRISTMAS
Shard End teenagers are putting on a Christmas show with a difference on Friday. (December 11)
The group, aged between 14 and 15, have been attending street dance classes for the last five weeks in conjunction with UK stop smoking charity QUIT®. Their end of term show called Jingle Bells will showcased to friends and family at The Pump, Shard End between 6pm-8pm.
The youth arm of QUIT – QUIT Because – works in schools and youth clubs to educate young people about the risks of smoking in lively and interactive ways. At the street dance classes, youngsters can learn moves and chat to their friends and, if they are smokers, get advice on quitting smoking from Quit Because Youth Presenter Hayley Millard, as well as carbon monoxide testing and other health checks.
Hayley said: “The youngsters have been working so hard all year and can’t wait to show off all their good work.
Some of the smokers who come to the classes have really found the project useful.”
The street dance initiative has been running in Birmingham since February and is just one of the ways Quit Because works with young people. For more information, visit www.quitbecause.org.uk
