QUIT®, the UK charity which helps smokers to stop, has appointed

a new Communications Officer

Nicola Orchard, 27, joins QUIT’s communications team from her previous role as feature writer at Newsquest North and East London, where she wrote a variety of articles for publications including the Watford Observer and St Albans Review.

Nicola said: “I have worked in local journalism for more than five years, and wanted a new challenge in my career.  I am looking forward to this role, as it will help me to develop other skills, as well as using my editorial experience in new ways to help promote QUIT and the work it does in helping people stop smoking.”

Nicola graduated from Bournemouth University in 2003 with a BA in Multi Media Journalism, and took up the role of trainee reporter at Trinity Mirror’s Buckinghamshire Examiner and Advertiser Series the same year, qualifying as a senior reporter in 2005.

Nicola replaces Communications Project Manager Kate Spicer, who is leaving QUIT to travel in the Far East and Australia for a year.

As Communications Officer, Nicola will work alongside Director of Development and Communications Glyn Mcintosh, helping promote the work of QUIT by liaising with the media to raise awareness of the charity’s current and forthcoming projects.
