Smoking myths destroyed in new QUIT guide
There are many myths and misunderstandings surrounding quitting smoking. Now QUIT, the UK charity which helps people to stop smoking, has produced a new guide – So You Want The Truth?
The A5 guide has dedicated sections on Smoking and Health, Stopping Smoking, Nicotine Addiction and Smoking and Pregnancy, and aims to dispel many of the myths surrounding smoking and stopping the habit.
Written with the help of Professor Robert West, Director of Tobacco Studies at Cancer Research UK, topics covered include the use of Nicotine Replacement Therapy while pregnant, the effects of smoking on weight and looks, the different types of cigarettes smoked, lung health and much more.
A QUIT counsellor said: “Many callers ring with questions about myths, such as Nicotine Replacement Therapy is too expensive; I am unlikely to get a smoking related disease; Smoking helps me stay thin and fit, and coughing is normal for a smoker, so we have produced a handy guide which has them all in one place. All common myths and misconceptions surrounding smoking and quitting smoking are here, with factual answers to help and educate people. It is a good reference guide for people who are trying to quit smoking, or who want to help a loved one to stop.”
Copies of the guide are available by calling the Quitline on 0800 00 22 00, emailing stopsmoking@quit.org.uk or online at www.quit.org.uk
