| GET HEALTHY IN 2010 WITH QUIT
Quitting smoking and starting a new healthy lifestyle are two of the most popular New Year’s resolutions for people to make once the excesses of the festive season have worn off.
This New Year, UK stop smoking charity QUIT® is helping people combine the two with the glossy guide So You Want a Healthy Body?
Many people worry that when they give up smoking, they will put on weight. This guide aims to help address that issue by offering advice on eating healthily and exercising.
QUIT counsellor Kate Philips said: “Quitting smoking is the single most important thing that a smoker can do to improve their health. This booklet includes a Body Mass Index disc and shows how smokers can benefit even more from a smoke-free lifestyle if they include other healthy behaviours into their everyday life.”
Advice includes not to go on a crash diet or strict exercise regime at the same time as attempting to quit the cigarettes, but to make small changes including walking more, using the stairs instead of the escalator and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
The guide is available free of charge by calling the Quitline on 0800 00 22 00.
