QUITLINE WINS SECOND TELEPHONE HELPLINES ASSOCIATION AWARD
The Quitline was rewarded for its 'imaginative use of SMS text messaging to provide a service' for its role in the TXT2STOP research pilot, at the Telephone Helplines Association Helpline Awards 2007 at London's BT Tower in March 2007.
QUIT worked in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to carry out a trial to assess reliably whether a package of mobile phone based support can improve smoking cessation rates at 6 months in young people in the UK. The TXT2STOP pilot was funded by Cancer Research UK.
Project Lead Dr Cari Free joined QUIT's Director of Services Ruth Bosworth to collect the award from the Telephone Helpline Association's Executive Committee member Simon Beresford.

The theme of this year's Awards was Imaginitive use of multi-channel working and awards were made to the helpline projects which made "most innovative and imaginative use of telecommunications techologies".
The Telephone Helplines Association is a membership organisation for non-profit helplines in the UK and has over 400 member helplines including Samaritans, Shelterline and ChildLine.
QUIT is the national charity that helps smokers to stop and has already helped over 2 million smokers via its Quitline 0800 002200.
